🧵 Time to debunk more myths about Nature Restoration Law.

Myth 1: Restoration means more protected areas & no economic activities. NO!

Myth 2: More Nature legislation is a bureaucratic nightmare for renewables. NO!

Renewables are a priority of this @EU_Commission, & EU agreed to grant them faster permitting.

When authorities plan restoration or renewables' deployment, they will have to take both into account.

Myth 3: It will take 10% of farmland out of production: NO!

There are no obligations to take land out!

Reaching 10% landscape features is a political EU goal & not a Member State’s obligation:

They can help heal agri land & include productive elements i.e. fruit & nut trees.

Myth 4: The law will apply retroactively & is an assault on private property rights: NO!

It won't apply retroactively but as of its entry into force.

Obligations are for EU countries, not farmers, foresters, fishers.
On top, all 27 will have big flexibility to reach the targets

Myth 5: This law will bring the EU back to the 1950s: NO!

It’s not about returning to the 50s, it’s about knowing what we've lost over the last decades to make informed decisions for the future.

It will then be for each country to decide on how much & what needs to be restored.

Myth 6: The @EU_Commission is imposing restoration measures to Member States: NO!

It’s Member States who, depending on their own assessments, design their plans & measures, based on science & consultations.

Plans are flexible & match the needs & capacities of each country.

Myth 7: This law will make farmers loose income, because their production will decrease: NO!

It will not lower production.

It will help damaged ecosystems recover so they can keep producing healthy & nutritious food for the years to come & so that farmers’ income is secured.

Myth 8: Fishing will be even more restricted: NO!

The remains the EU framework for deciding on sustainable fisheries.

It's up to Member States to ensure coherence between & environmental law, crucial for marine ecosystems' health & our fishers' future stability.

Myth 9: This law adds additional burden on farmers, not the time to have it: NO!

Postponing doesn't help farmers today & we risk losing precious time to restore ecosystems they depend on.

Time to work closely @europarl_en & @EUCouncil for this essential piece of legislation!
