The biggest impact on the value of the £ was Brexit.
RT @lionelbarber: Sterling slumps to 1.15 to US dollar. Of course, it’s Putin, war, and the cost of energy; but does anybody seriously think it has nothing to do with a lack of confidence in the government, its non-serious economic policy, a dismal Tory leadership contest, cartoon Thatcherism? Etc

RT @johnelworthy: The £50m ‘lost’ in Cambridgeshire is wrong. @CambsPboroCA agreed in March 2021 to act as distributor for 138 local councils across SE England. Nobody bothered to ask @CambsPboroCA officers if they had the capacity to do this. Then of course change of Mayor. Perfect storm

RT @campbellclaret: Why is there so little talk of the massive and largely Brexit caused devaluation of the pound? And why also so little talk across the media of the @tortoise expose of the potentially unlawful nature of the Tory leadership contest?

RT @EdwardJDavey: Johnson's final act as PM is publishing legal advice trying to get himself off the hook for his lies.

The Conservative brand has been trashed by Johnson and all those who backed him until the very end. How can Truss or Sunak seriously expect anyone will ever trust them?

What a list! Do listen to the end if you can bear it. The final sentence is crucial 🤦‍♀️
RT @LBC: James O'Brien lists the 'worst' of Boris Johnson.

'While the rest of us have been reeling with disgust and horror at what this man has done to our democracy, Liz Truss has been taking notes.'

Wow! Good to see the British people have woken up to the true impact! I wonder when the rest of the media will catch up?

So today was the last day for @johnelworthy as editor for several local papers. A huge loss to local journalism. John has an incredible record of speaking truth to power and uncovering injustice. He will continue that work, but sadly not as our local print media editor.

@markrwilliamson @CambsCC @benschofield This type of debate is what the consultation is for. We clearly need mitigations for those who need to drive often. That element is in the papers, and not a new suggestion. The point is around frequency for those who don’t have alternatives, not the level of the charge.

Interesting to see Cllrs Hunt and Hoy at CPCA meeting this morning asking for support for bus services, while at the same time Cllr Bailey has come out strongly against GCP proposals designed specifically to improve buses. I’m keen to hear what their proposals for funding are!

RT @juliablunck1: Every time a politician does their little agree to interview then pull out trick the BBC should put on an one hour long soft touch feature with the the opposition parties. Keir Starmer cooks pasta and is completely uninterrupted talking about his policies. Ed Davey playing piano.

RT @vonderleyen: Mikhail Gorbachev was a trusted and respected leader. He played a crucial role to end the Cold War and bring down the Iron Curtain. It opened the way for a free Europe.

This legacy is one we will not forget.

RT @Haggis_UK: Andy Burnham - Liz Truss & Rishi Sunak are calling for more Thatcherism, but that's what got us into this mess in the 80s... we sold off the gas, electric, water, buses & trains... & now people can't afford these essentials now...

RT @StokesCarolyn1: A young lad just now on @SkyNews selling his toys because he knows his mum doesn't have any money so doesn't want to ask her for any. This is heartbreaking and utterly deplorable. I lived through the appalling Thatcher years but this is another level entirely!

RT @timfarron: It is appalling that the huge rise in energy bills has been announced without any new intervention from the government. The price rises are pushing households into debt, destitution and despair… they will also finish off many businesses, costing people their jobs.
