To support Syrians, 🇪🇺-funded humanitarian partners are providing, among other:

Over 3340 people tragically died in 🇸🇾 in the #earthquake. Over 7000 people are injured, many buildings and infrastructure are destroyed.

Yesterday in Gaziantep, I talked to some of the members of the search & rescue teams mobilised by the #EUCivilProtectionMechanism.
Their devotion and determination, even when the chances to save more lives are bleak, is incredible. They are at the ❤ of #EUSolidarity in action.

Almost immediately after the devastating #earthquakeTürkiyeSyria hit, the 🇪🇺 started to mobilise what turned into the largest #EUCivilProtectionMechanism search and rescue operation to help save lives.
In this race against time, over 1600 European rescuers were deployed to 🇹🇷.

While in Gaziantep🇹🇷, I also met with our humanitarian partners, who were providing assistance to the most vulnerable in this area and just across the border in 🇸🇾 already before this terrible #earthquake hit.

After yesterday's activation of the #EUCivilProtectionMechanism by Syria, we are also channeling emergency aid to the affected people in 🇸🇾. I thank 🇮🇹 & 🇷🇴 for their swift offers. Today, the @WFP also activated our Mechanism, allowing further aid to be channeled to people in 🇸🇾.

In response to the #earthquake in 🇹🇷, we are mobilising the #rescEU strategic reserve to deliver temporary shelter from 🇪🇺 emergency stockpiles hosted by 🇸🇪 and 🇷🇴.
This is next to 24 European countries offering 38 rescue and medical teams via the #EUCivilProtectionMechanism.
