I feel so sorry for the people who queued for so long for their personal moment of reflection, when paying their respects to Her Majesty, only to have it completely ruined. That will sadly be their memory of such a solemn occasion.

An immense privilege to handle a truly historical medal. This is the awarded to a civilian, Thomas Henry Kavanagh, for his valour during the Siege of Luckow on 8th November 1857. It sold today in our rooms for a world record price of £930,000. @NoonansAuctions

With all the tanks, vehicles and military equipment captured during the retreat, it looks as though, ironically, Russia has become largest arms exporter to Ukraine.

Pleased to have got back from Northern Ireland in time to have been able to attend this afternoon’s proclamation of King Charles III at Guildhall. As to be expected, the good people of ‘the faithful city’ did His Majesty proud.

Just arriving into Birkenhead on the overnight ferry and I happened to look out of my cabin window just as we pass the iconic Liver Building, with the sunrise behind her.

Currently in Northern Ireland on business, many ‘lamppost’ flags are at half mast. I was travelling up country yesterday & saw an Irish tricolour on a rural farm, also at half mast, which really touched me. Fair play. So respectful. A mark of how this beautiful place is changing,

Sitting in Belfast watching the Late Late Show with my sister in law. A lovely tribute from the Irish President, speaking about Her Majesty. Deeply moving.

The most astonishing fact that I’ve heard today is that Her Majesty’s first Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, was born in 1874, and her last, Liz Truss, was born 101 years later in 1975. Quite incredible.

So thankful for Her Majesty’s faithful lifetime of service to our Nation and Commonwealth. She was the perfect example of public service. May her memory be a blessing.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to the Royal Family at this worrying time. God Save the Queen.

Delighted to read this. Anyone who truly cares about injustice should applaud this long overdue decision. Successive governments, of both sides, have consistently let Chagossians down. Their treatment has been scandalous. A step in the right direction. Credit where it is due.
RT @ChagosUK: Great to see the detail of this vital change being outlined. A very welcome and significant step towards justice for Chagossians

Back at work after island hopping in Greece, before ending up in fantastic Athens. Such an amazing country. Great people and superb food. So much so that more of me came home than went - The diet has begun!

My sincere condolences to Henry de Bromhead and his family on their tragic loss. Heartbreaking.
