Today I met with activists from @SeaShepherdFran who have brought the issues of some fishing practices to the doors of the European Parliament.

They showed us how beautiful creatures like these dolphins are being needlessly killed as bycatch.

Immensely proud of Ciarán's work on this piece of legislation which will ensure warmer homes and cheaper bills for European citizens in the coming decades 👏

Comhghairdeas @ciarancuffe !!
RT @ciarancuffe: Progress! The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was approved by the European Parliament, now on to trialogues...

Delighted to see my colleague and friend @ciarancuffe's work on Energy Performance of Buildings pass with flying colours just now in Parliament!

Greens in Europe leading the way to lower energy bills, warmer homes and climate action 💪

@decornerforward @noonan_malcolm Hi Seán, I agree with the urgency. As part of the Fisheries Control reform I am working to ensure large vessels have electronic monitoring, including cameras, installed. This will mean physical Naval or Civil Observer presence is not required for constant monitoring.

@Seasaver @EamonRyan @naval_service @Irishwildlife @IWDGnews We're working in the European Parliament to make sure ships like this have increased monitoring, including CCTV onboard, to reduce the damage they do to endangered species and make sure everything that is caught is recorded and controlled.

We need two immediate actions to limit the damage of super-trawlers like the Margiris.

🌊 massively expanded Marine Protected Areas
👁️ on-board monitoring of large vessels

@noonan_malcolm is on the case for the first point.

I'm working in Brussels to introduce the second.
RT @Seasaver: Bad news for our Irish friends.

Megatrawler Margiris — destroyer of oceans — has arrived off the biodiversity-rich west coast of Ireland.

Over 10,000 Irish people signed this petition calling for a phase-out of synthetic pesticides responsible for the deterioration of soil health and the collapse of pollinator populations.

❗️REPORT: We're at nothing if we're not also reducing the amount of plastic we are producing; cleanup is not enough.

The upcoming Regulation on Packaging & Packaging Waste will need to be strong in shifting the EU, and the world, in this direction ➡️

Heading into late negotiations on the largest reform of fisheries in a decade 🎣

Looking for a modernised system and fairness for small scale fishers.

Still concerned about some proposals on the table to weaken catch recording rules which could threaten endangered species

Caught up with my old @SeanadCEG colleague @SenLynnRuane this morning in the EP. A fitting day for it 😊

Happy Women's Day from New York!

We are here with our MEP @k_langensiepen to bring European Green feminist energy to the @UN's biggest gender equality event, the Commission on the Status of Women, & to meet feminist activists from all over the world. 💜💚✊

☃️Good morning from a snowy Brussels!

♀️ A busy day of meetings and negotiations, but it's also International Women's Day! Things ARE changing, but we still have a lot to fight for ✊️

Another note - it's also my birthday 😉

@MojoMediaIE Hi there! Fear not, this is just one of the many new areas being discussed under the Fisheries Control Regulation.

We're not trying to restrict them, we're including them in monitoring and policymaking after years of being sidelined in the Common Fisheries Policy

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/GraceOSllvn/s

@irish_organic Fully agree! And up til now anglers and inshore fishers have been sidelined by the Common Fisheries Policy. It's time we include them in data collection and policymaking!

Nine million people go fishing and angling in Europe for recreation 🎣

I’m in negotiations today working towards a new EU register for recreational fisheries so we can ensure this continues sustainably for everyone and the 🌊 environment

This story is heartwrenching - Israeli policies are slowly killing this man.

I heard of many cases like this where healthcare was delayed or denied - particularly to those in Gaza - due to travel visa issues.
RT @WHOoPt: Khalid has kidney failure.

He needs to exit Gaza to ensure he can continue lifesaving dialysis.

He has been denied an Israeli permit 4⃣ times.

He is waiting for the outcome of his latest application.

Health is a right for all.
