@Styo28183449 @ciarancuffe @greenparty_ie @GreensEFA @europeangreens Apple made at least $6.9 billion by forcing consumers to buy their specific charger separately. Naturally, they were against this legislation which will save consumers money.

@noel74092133 @ciarancuffe @greenparty_ie @GreensEFA @europeangreens Thanks for the comment Noel. Wind turbine waste is an issue, but recycling of turbines is increasing. We are working on it!

Whereas the toxic fumes and emissions from fossil fuel energy production cannot be recycled ever! ☢️

@GarrettODoh @ciarancuffe @greenparty_ie @GreensEFA @europeangreens Hi Garrett, the average life of a charger cable is actually only a year! This legislation will reduce waste not create it. It will also allow you to buy devices without being forced to buy a new specific charger too!

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/GraceOSllvn/status/1

@Styo28183449 @ciarancuffe @greenparty_ie @GreensEFA @europeangreens Thankfully the legislation is designed not to block any new technologies and is easily amendable without the need to go through the whole process all over again!

Cable waste is also one the fastest growing areas of waste in the world, so it’s a massive problem!

@dkellyj @sendboyle @ciarancuffe @greenparty_ie @GreensEFA @europeangreens Fully agree Daithí, thankfully @GreensEFA managed to get laptops included (albeit with the rollout at a later date) as well as other devices like e-readers, mice and keyboards!

The beginning of the end of the scramble for the right cable in that top drawer!

The European Parliament just adopted the EU Common Charger 🔌

Good news for consumers, and tackling one of the fastest growing sources of waste on the planet 🌍

@Easkeysurf @euparl_net So true, basking sharks are in a whole other world we’re only beginning to understand!

Next stop: fisheries control reform, sensitive ecosystem closures, MPAs!

My Resolution demands a ban on Arctic oil and gas for the first time in EU history.

We are also repeating the call for a network of Marine Protected Areas covering 30% of the world's oceans, as well as a moratorium on deep sea mining.

Votes later this week ➡️

⚠️Important day for ocean biodiversity and climate action 🌊

Today I tabled a Resolution on Ocean Governance, while at home @noonan_malcolm introduced protections for the great but endangered basking shark 🦈 which can be seen all over Irish coasts from Inishowen to Barley Cove.

Good news in an otherwise very tight election. Activist @GuajajaraSonia elected as São Paulo’s first indigenous deputy.

Hoping for a strong win for the environment, for the vulnerable, for Lula 🇧🇷

Then as now, we campaigned to defend the ocean from the most damaging industries.

Next week I table a Resolution for similar reasons - oil drilling, marine protected areas and public subsidies for fossil fuels!

Very proud of my Green colleague @rodericogorman who is making monumental changes in the childcare sector.

Check out what he has secured for 2023 in this thread ⬇️
RT @rodericogorman: 📢 As of January 2023, childcare fees will be reduced by 25%, as part of a €1bn investment in childcare.

This means that parents, on average, will save €1,200 per child per year, up to a maximum of €2,100.

So lovely to welcome Trish and Padraic from @LeaderClare to the European Parliament this morning.

They're in Brussels for @ENIL_EU's Freedom Drive, bringing together hundreds of disability activists to learn, share experiences and protest.

Disability activism is something that is very close to my heart, and ensuring voices of marginalised groups are empowered and actually in the decision-making room is so soimportant.

Clare Leader Forum's slogan is aptly "Nothing About Us, Without Us!"

🇪🇺 Today in the Committees on Human Rights, Development and Foreign Affairs, we presented the case for Shireen Abu Akleh to be awarded the 2022 Sakharov Prize.

Her killing should shock all who value freedom of the press.

🚨Subsidies for environmentally harmful practices should - plainly and simply - cease to exist.

I've legislated for this on a European level, but Irish agencies can and should be moving away from this bad value practice.
