What is the impact on #dataprotection?
🟡It is difficult to demonstrate positive impacts due to continuous developments. Depending on a particular case, it may allow certain degrees of anonymity.
🔴Deeper profiling; constant monitoring; interference of special categories of data
#Metaverse is accessible from anywhere, using different types of smart devices, such as VR headsets, smart bracelets, smartphone apps, etc. Considering the vast quantities of personal data that may be collected, metaverse platforms pose significant privacy-related challenges ⬇️
Discover #TechSonar! Our #3 foreseen trend for 2022/2023 is #Metaverse.
Metaverse is a world of interconnected physical and virtual communities where users can develop professionally, socialise, entertain, commerce and even trade with virtual properties https://europa.eu/!WrmBCV ⬇️
Thank you President Pasquale Stanzione and Member of the Board @guidoscorza for the kind invitation.
My final message to the audience: We can’t have business or governments tipping the level of rule of law and citizens’ rights, making the unacceptable acceptable @W_Wiewiorowski
...and we need to talk, to discuss, to exit comfort zones, to establish a level playing field, to have an inclusive open democratic dialogue.
A common understanding of ‘unacceptabilities’". @W_Wiewiorowski
This calls for ethics too. To quote Giovanni Buttarelli: "We need to look, at how such technologies affect people in good and bad ways; we need critical understanding of ethics informing decisions by companies, governments & regulators whenever they develop & deploy new tech...⬇️
We need to avoid new discriminations based on health-related data, on bio-profiling for all sorts of purposes. The control on the body, about which Michel Foucault and Stefano Rodotà expressed concerns, has now a new operational aspect. And I wonder, What would they say now? ⬇️
All of these directly impact our lives.
We need to proceed with digitalisation in a way that it does not jeopardise privacy, data protection, fundamental rights, human dignity, and all the achievements made in the EU in this regard @W_Wiewiorowski ⬇️
We are glad to be invited to speak at 'State of Privacy 22'. We are living in times of deep transformation marked by the 4th industrial revolution where the fusion of technologies is blurring the lines between physical, digital and biological sphere @W_Wiewiorowski ⬇️
#AI systems and use of health-related data in the context of ‘internet of bodies’ are opening unprecedented opportunities and risks. Remote control of workers is now an issue of potential micro-surveillance and inner-surveillance, such as emotion recognition @W_Wiewiorowski ⬇️
Buongiorno from Napoli! 🇪🇺🇮🇹
Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of @GPDP_IT, a landmark moment for #dataprotection and #privacy in #EU and Italy. Today, we also celebrate a long-term fruitful cooperation with the Italian Data Protection Authority @EU_EDPB and beyond ⬇️
RT @Luke_like: Oggi in Italia #stateofprivacy celebra i 25 anni del @GPDP_IT e le future sfide della privacy. La prima? Difendere un diritto dato per scontato. What is the impact on #dataprotection?
🟢 Positive: #PrivacybyDesign; more control over personal data and security; potential enhanced anonymity in payment process.
🔴Negative: Concentration of data in the hands of central banks; wrong design choices; lack of security & trust
#CBDC could be #centralised, where transactions are recorded in ledgers managed by central banks that also provide user-facing services; or #decentralised, where a central bank sets rules for settlement of transactions that are then recorded by users or financial intermediaries⬇️
