RT @georgvh: Latest strains not more severe but "increasing transmission among older age groups" putting pressure on hospitals, warns @ECDC_EU. Agency urges boosers for all aged 60+ "to protect healthcare systems" #COVID19 #coronavirus #vaccines
Why is this important? Many countries are reconsidering their approach to #COVID19 surveillance now.
It had a lasting impact on existing systems designed for #influenza. The established systems are not yet fully suitable for integrated respiratory virus surveillance.
Countries should plan for a potential upscaling of testing for #influenza viruses and #SARSCoV2 if required in response to the emergence of a new #SARSCoV2 variant of concern or influenza variant.

With the publication of the "Operational considerations for respiratory virus surveillance" we provide concrete guidance for the transition to a sustainable integrated surveillance of respiratory viruses.

The increases signal the start of a widespread wave driven by the BA.4 and BA.5 variants.
This is why @EMA_News & @ECDC_EU advise to administer 2nd booster doses of #COVID19vaccines to 60+ and immunocompromised individuals.

RT @EU_Health: #COVID19: What's a vaccine booster?
Boosters are extra vaccine doses that maintain/restore protection against death or hospitalisation from COVID-19
They are important because protection from primary COVID-19 vaccination may reduce over time
