RT by @ECDC_EU: Ahead of , we’ve launched the most recent HIV/AIDS surveillance report for Europe together with @ECDC_EU.

2.6 million people are currently diagnosed with in the WHO European Region.

It shows that underdiagnosis and late diagnosis remain the main challenges in our efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS.

Only 70% of all people living with HIV in Europe and Central Asia are aware of their status.

The biggest remaining hurdles in our region are restrictive and intolerant environments and even criminalization of HIV transmission – compounding stubborn stigma and discrimination – as well as inconsistent uptake of evidence-based interventions.

We must

🔹increase funding for HIV prevention
🔹create safe spaces for people to access services
🔹normalize testing
🔹ensure that policies are compassionate - not punitive.
