Government interference in public broadcasting is a threat to democracy.
In #Strasbourg I highlighted the need to strengthen rules to enhance independent governance and editorial independence of public service media.

The @EU_Commission noted significant and direct influence by the Maltese government in the public broadcaster.
This is unacceptable.
I welcome the EC's legislative proposals to strengthen the press and protect journalists.
