A harbinger of what is to come in the UK once you licence state sponsored euthanasia. People with mental disorder being euthanized to me is particularly abhorrent as it can never be guaranteed as terminal nor incurable nor is their capacity to consent to being terminated reliable

RT by @CharlesTannock: I would be dead at 25 if assisted suicide had been on the table.

Multiple suicide attempts. Hospitalizations. Residential treatment.

Instead, I’m turning 38 this month. I have a husband I love, a job I love, and a life I love today.

My life had value.

I've fought against suicide all my professional life as a doctor and psychiatrist but now the libertarian bien pensants tell me I was wrong as personal choice and autonomy overrides my concerns

RT by @CharlesTannock: Isn’t it lovely and super convenient when compassionately killing the old and sick saves us all lots of money 🥰

True and suicidality is still grounds to detain you under the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended in 2007. Feel sorry for Liaison Psychiatrists who will struggle between preventing patients' suicide & asked to legally OK it be assisted by a lethal injection. Orwellian nightmare!

I do agree many people who would have lived much longer than medically predicted and who may have with decent palliative care changed their minds on a combined opioid analgesic & powerful antidepressant regime will have had their lives prematurely terminated by this sinister law

Our legislators have opened a Pandora's box of commercial suicide peddlers& it will be inevitably extended to mentally disordered and minors as we see in other jurisdictions. Glad I've left UK clinical practice & hope never to be terminally ill in a facility pushing a quick death

As someone whose professional life was all about fighting suicide this Bill sanctioning state assisted suicide totally undermines our ethos as Psychiatrists. Shameful and glad I am retired from clinical practice where such a dystopian practice will now prevail in the UK.

So far his track record in cutting wasteful expenditure & taming inflation is remarkable & his support from the global south for Ukraine & withdrawal from BRICS candidature commendable. Yes he's surprised the world & doing a good job stabilising his country in challenging times.

RT by @CharlesTannock: Never before in human existence has ‘assisted dying’ been less necessary. Medical science has not been idle. It’s bizarre that in this ‘debate’ we aren’t focusing on delivering better care.

[2024-11-28 11:20 UTC]

My thoughts precisely. A dystopian world where some lives are more valued by the state than others.

A doctor I can respect with a conscience who upholds the principle of 'thou shalt not kill' & respects the preciousness of life including for the most vulnerable and frail. The kind of medical care I would expect for myself & my loved ones in a caring society.
