Sunak’s govt is hiding behind convention of not sharing legal advice to avoid even admitting whether the Attorney General advised PM about war crimes in Gaza – if war crimes aren’t a rare exception to the rule to keep legal advice secret – what would be under this immoral govt?

[2024-05-22 15:19 UTC]

Tory MP just forced vote on essentially scrapping any semblance of a UK asylum system, contravening Refugee Convention. Labour sit on fence & abstain. Really? More than disappointing -surely a functioning asylum system is something even this Labour frontbench would stand up for?

Even now, with an even more alarming assault on our democratic rights through Walney's report,
nitter.privacydev.net/UKLabour
are still failing to stand up to this lurch towards authoritarianism, saying his recommendations need looking at "in more depth" when much of it should be rejected outright.

Walney's report is dangerous, draconian and undemocratic. Masquerading as an independent report, it is an overtly political hit job on our most fundamental civil rights, including the right to protest and trial by jury. We cannot afford to underestimate how serious this threat is

[2024-05-22 13:48 UTC]

Walney asked wouldn't his rules have made suffragettes, anti-apartheid or LGBTQ+ protestors extremists? Says it's different: suffragettes didn't have the vote. Because who needs right to protest when we can vote once every 5 years (under unrepresentative first past post system)?

Last year, Southern Water released raw sewage into our waters for 317,285 hours, up 116% on the year before. Now they are asking Ofwat if they can put up our bills by a whopping 91% to pay for their failure? It's an outrage. What an absolute scam.

RT by @CarolineLucas: The Government has just published a report demanding draconian new anti-protest powers, specifically to protect defence and energy companies, while failing to mention its author's role as a paid lobbyist for... arms and fossil fuel industry groups

RT by @CarolineLucas: Caroline Lucas raises a point of order about the Government's publication of a report demanding draconian new anti-protest laws to protect the defence and fossil fuel industry, while failing to mention its authors ties to those industries bylinetimes.com/2024/05/21/sun

I pay tribute to all those who fought for justice on
nitter.privacydev.net/search?q
for so long & welcome Govt finally accepting urgency of compensation. But there will be an accountability gap without an independent body to monitor & oversee implementation of report's recommendations

[2024-05-21 14:04 UTC]

Today's report from
nitter.privacydev.net/LordWaln
is neither "independent" (see his interests in oil & gas/arms industry), nor about protecting our democracy. On the contrary, it is an assault on the fundamental democratic right to protest & an alarming step on the path to authoritarianism.

The Govt's climate plan has been ruled unlawful - twice. So I asked if they'd finally do better & stop relying on magic technofixes. Apparently my q wasn't "credible" as the UK is already doing great. Was High Court ruling also not credible? Or
nitter.privacydev.net/theCCCuk
saying we're off track?

Minister sets out horrors in Gaza for hostages & traumatised, displaced population of Palestinian civilians and concerns re a Rafah offensive. Says UK is writing to Israeli Govt about it. A letter? He needs to stop UK complicity & revoke all licenses for arms exports to Israel

[2024-05-20 15:30 UTC]

Deputy Foreign Secretary acknowledges “much more aid is required” for Gaza – what he won’t acknowledge is the UK's shameful failure to follow other global partners to restore funding to UNRWA – the main provider of aid in Gaza.

[2024-05-20 15:29 UTC]

UK, under Truss as Foreign Sec, led the charge to get the ICC to investigate Russia’s war crimes vs Ukraine. But when it comes to the Israeli Govt (also, like Russia, not a signatory), our hypocritical Govt likes to claim the ICC has no authority?

[2024-05-20 15:27 UTC]

Outrageous to hear Foreign Office Minister in House of Commons undermine authority of the International Criminal Court. The ICC has jurisdiction in relation to any alleged crimes committed in Gaza and in the West Bank. All involved must uphold international law.

[2024-05-20 15:26 UTC]

The ICC has applied for warrants to arrest both the leaders of Hamas and Israel for war crimes. What more will it take for the UK Govt to end our complicity, act on the evidence and immediately revoke all licenses for arms exports to Israel?

Today's publication of report into infected blood is a window into the unimaginable suffering of so many people. My heart goes out to all who were failed so badly and those who lost their lives. Justice demands action. Recommendations must be implemented immediately & in full
