Mariusz Kamiński was jailed twice as a juvenile, in 1981 and 1983, for his courage in opposing the communist regime. But Jaruzelski's junta couldn't break him.
Nowadays, judges who openly support the Civic Platform, with social links to post-communist military intelligence services and family links to the bloody Stalinist judiciary, who should never issue any verdicts on behalf of Poland, are a useful tool in Tusk's hands. In 2024, Mariusz Kaminski was abducted from the Presidential Palace, imprisoned, and transferred out of Warsaw. All done unlawfully, despite a presidential pardon and while being an MP protected by parliamentary immunity.
Tusk knows that post-communism cannot be reimposed on Poles without humiliating icons of anticorruption and freedom fighters. That's why Mariusz Kamiński is Tusk's obvious priority target. He is kept in really poor conditions, without heating, despite health problems. Tusk's regime has all the tools in its hands to release him. And is fully responsible for his well-being.
Looking at Mariusz Kaminski's case, both at a general political level and in legal terms, should be alarming to Western democracies. Kaminski's strong and effective actions countering Putin's and Lukashenka's hybrid warfare, including dismantling numerous spy networks, made him an enemy of autocratic regimes in Moscow, Minsk and Beijing. Tusk's actions also serves their interests.
